Foster Caring

DKD provides all food, equipment, and vet care for those dogs on our program. We are also actively involved in training our volunteers so that they produce well rounded and socialised puppies for our program.

Puppy Foster Families

Responsible for the care, socialisation and basic training of a puppy. This is generally a commitment of between three and twelve months.
Eligibility criteria:
– must reside in metropolitan Melbourne, Geelong, or the Mornington Peninsula
– can not work for more than five hours a day
– can commit to caring for a puppy for up to twelve months

Temporary Foster Families

Care for our puppies and dogs for short periods of time (e.g. while a family is on holiday). The length of time varies from anywhere between a couple of days to six months.
Eligibility criteria:
– must reside in metropolitan Melbourne, Geelong, or the Mornington Peninsula
– can not work for more than five hours a day
– can commit to caring for a puppy for up to six weeks

Bed and Breakfast Families

Care for our dogs in training. These dogs are collected by our staff several days each week to complete their formal training.
Eligibility criteria:
– must reside in Seaford, Carrum Downs and surrounding suburbs
– staff must be able to access the yard to pick up and drop off the dog
– can commit to caring for a dog for up to six months
